Patrick McCarthy is the President of The Annie E. Casey Foundation (AECF), which has worked to build better futures for disadvantaged children and their families in the United States since 1948. AECF's primary mission is to foster public policies, human service reforms and community supports that more effectively meet the needs of today's vulnerable children and families. Prior to serving as the President of AECF, McCarthy was the Vice President for System & Service Reform at the foundation. In this role, he oversaw the foundation’s role in general, reproductive and mental health; substance abuse; juvenile justice; education; early childhood and youth development; child welfare; and income security.

Gary Stangler
Executive Director, Jim Casey Youth Opportunities Initiative

Mr. Stangler is executive director of the Jim Casey Youth Opportunities Initiative, a major national effort launched in May 2001 by The Annie E. Casey Foundation and Casey Family Programs to help youth in foster care make successful transitions to the adult world. Prior to this position, Mr. Stangler was the director of the Missouri Department of Social Services (DSS) appointed by Governor John Ashcroft (R) in May 1989, and re-appointed by Governor Mel Carnahan (D) in February 1993. Active in international, national and state organizations, he has served on the board of directors of the American Public Human Services Association and the American Public Welfare Association, and chaired its National Council of State Human Services Administrators from 1994-1998. He is a graduate of the Program for Senior Executives in State and Local Government; Strategic Public-Sector Negotiation; and Leadership for the 21st Century at the John F. Kennedy School of Government, Harvard University.

Christine Sturgis, founder of MetisNet consulting group, brings a breadth of professional and personal experience in the trenches at grassroots organizations, in capitol buildings with state agencies and in the national spotlight with large philanthropic foundations. As a 16-year-old at Manual High School in 1976, she testified before the U.S. Commission on Civil Rights as a student leader during the early stages of desegregation in Denver schools. Over the course of seven years, Chris managed program efforts at the Charles Stewart Mott Foundation and the Omidyar Foundation. Prior to that, she directed initiatives at the MassJobs Council and the Greater Boston Rehabilitation Services. Since 1999, she has served as co-chair of the Youth Transition Funders Group, facilitating the collaborative efforts of 40 foundations all dedicated to improving outcomes for vulnerable youth. Chris received her M.A. in Public Policy from Harvard University's Kennedy School of Government.
