Archives 2005

Learning by Connections: A Teleconference Series for Funders is a new project of the Youth Transition Funders Group (YTFG). Our goal is to provide timely, cutting-edge information to grantmakers who fund programs and initiatives that seek to improve the lives of youth likely to be disconnected from positive personal, family, and community involvement. The teleconference series focuses on grantmaking strategies for youth between the ages of 14 and 24 who have dropped out of school, had a baby before age 20 without being married, and are deeply involved in the juvenile justice and foster care systems.

Learning by Connections offers grantmakers the opportunity to learn from each other, identify best practices in the field, and understand how to be more effective in meeting the funding priorities of programs, organizations, and systems that serve vulnerable youth in transition. Funders from the public sector, corporate giving programs, private foundations, family foundations, and community foundations are invited to participate.

YTFG worked in partnership with grantmakers and funders' networks on three teleconferences in 2005:

On May 23, 2005, YTFG and Grantmakers for Children, Youth & Families sponsored Overrepresentation:  How Funders Can Address the Dis-

proportionality of Young Men of Color in the School-to-Prison Pipeline, which featured the best practices and lessons learned from the Schott Foundation and Carnegie Corporation of New York.

On July 19, 2005, YTFG and the Funders' Collaborative for Youth Organizing sponsored a teleconference entitled Funding Youth Organizing for Systems Change: The Impact  on the Juvenile Justice System.

On October 27, 2005, YTFG and the Ford Motor Company Fund sponsored a teleconference entitled Corporate Giving on Vulnerable Youth Issues, which featured the programs of Dell, Inc., American Express, and the Ford Motor Company Fund.
