Derick Mejia Torres
Derick Mejia Torres is a Honduran American leader and currently serves as the Financial System Scholar for the Maryland State Department of Education. Derick’s commitment to justice and youth leadership is rooted in his own experiences navigating the barriers systemic inequities create for immigrant families. While at Wake Forest University, he earned his B.A. in Politics and International Affairs with a minor in Latin American Studies, and he was named a Truman Scholarship Finalist. He co-founded the ASPIRE Fellowship during his time at ALAS, training and mentoring young leaders to advocate for restorative policies and equitable opportunities. Across his work, Derick has partnered with coalitions and community leaders to expand access to court-impacted youth and create pathways to education for all regardless of status.
