This series is designed to build off 2023’s exploration of models and strategies to support community-centered and community-led solutions that support well-being and equity outcomes. This virtual learning series is for all YTFG members.
LEARNING SERIES DESIRED OUTCOMES:
To continue to learn from innovative community leaders what it means to build true community-designed and community-led solutions that support youth and family well-being.
To understand more concretely what community leaders and organizations need and want from system leaders (and funders) to advance and accelerate community-centered work.
To explore community-system partnerships and shared decision making tables that aim to set new norms for co-design, transparency and accountability.
To explore how systems can approach community relationships to gain trust, build capacity, and promote greater investment in upstream approaches
To identify additional learning opportunities for YTFG members.
Session 1 of this Learning Series highlighted an innovative example of a community-designed and led model of care that seeks to build service capacity outside of formal public systems. The discussion explored the design processes and development mechanisms that are necessary to capacitate efforts outside of public systems.
Our guest discussants will be Gina Lyles, Founder and Executive Director, and Trey Hart, Co-Founder and Managing Director, of The Hive Movement in Richmond, VA.
About The Hive, in their own words:
The Hive helps young people and emerging adults successfully transition into adulthood. We are a Black-led, intergenerational, and multi-racial community that believes in a world where all young people feel like they belong and have the resources they need to become independent, healthy, and thriving adults. We are a community-based solution seeking to transition our reliance away from the parts of the legal and child welfare systems that have been proven ineffective, replacing them with holistic systems of care and support strengthened by an ecosystem of partners. We want to ensure young people stay out of the legal system and, ultimately, we want to end practices that further replicate harm, like incarceration, policing, and family separation.
