State of Economic Well-Being 2024 - Session 1

Direct Cash Transfers & Other Financial Supports

This was the first installment of our 2024 three-part series focused on the state of economic well-being for transition-age youth.

Supporting basic needs through cash and benefits assistance is a rapidly growing strategy to support young people's overall well-being and to prevent systems-involvement. This session featured key leaders focused on policy, research, and practice both locally and nationally, as they discussed financial strategies that support the economic well-being of transition-age youth.

Speakers:

  • Ashley Barnes-Cocke, Point Source Youth

  • Julia Davis, Children's Defense Fund New York

  • Shafeka Hashash, Associate Director for Guaranteed Income at the Economic Security Project

  • Stacia West, Founding Director of the Center for Guaranteed Income Research at the University of Pennsylvania
